What is the Dementia Coalition?

We are the Dementia Coalition, a coalition of five nonprofit organisations specialising in dementia. These organisations are:

  • Alzheimer Scotland (Charity No. SC 022315)
  • Alzheimer’s Research (Charity No. 1077089; SC042474
  • Alzheimer’s Society (Charity No. 296645)
  • Dementia UK (Charity No. 1039404; SC 047429)
  • UK Dementia Research Institute (Charity No. 1179589)

The Dementia Coalition has been set up to put dementia at the forefront of the minds of those standing for election in the July 2024 General Election, and to offer evidence-based policy solutions for long term change.

The five coalition members are working together as joint data controllers of your personal data.

All coalition members are based in the United Kingdom and comply with relevant UK legislation: the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA); UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR); and the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations 2003 (PECR).

What information do we collect?

The Dementia Coalition will process the following information about you:

  • name;
  • email address;
  • contact telephone number;
  • address;
  • professional qualifications;
  • suffixes;
  • email correspondence with the Dementia Coalition.

The Dementia Coalition will also process the following type of special category data:

  • political party or affiliation.

As special category data we will process this data with particular care and sensitivity.

How do we collect your information and why do we have it?

The Dementia Coalition have purchased your name and email address from DeHavilland, a political monitoring company, as you are standing for election in the July 2024 General Election. The Dementia Coalition have used this information to collate an email address book.

The Dementia Coalition will process personal information supplied voluntarily by you in your email correspondence, including information included in your email signatures and auto-responses.

The Dementia Coalition will use your information to email you regularly with the aim of putting dementia at the forefront of the minds of those standing for election and offering evidence-based policy solutions for long term change. After the election, the Dementia Coalition will continue to process your information to foster an ongoing relationship with elected candidates.

How do we store your information? How long for?

Your personal information and email correspondence with the Dementia Coalition is stored in a shared email account hosted in Microsoft Outlook. This email account is hosted on a subdomain owned by Dementia UK.

Your personal information and email correspondence with the Dementia Coalition will be kept for 12 months from the date of the last communication to or from the Dementia Coalition.

Do we share your information? Is it transferred outside of the UK?

The five organisations that make up the Dementia Coalition will share your information with each other on an ongoing basis. A representative of each organisation will have access to the email account.

In addition, the Dementia Coalition will share your information in the following circ*mstances:

  • there is a legal obligation;
  • you or another person is at risk of serious harm, neglect, death, or threat to personal safety or wellbeing;
  • there is suspected criminal activity.

Lawful Basis

The Dementia Coalition are processing your information under the lawful basis of legitimate interests.

Your rights

As a data subject, under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access: you have the right to ask for copies of all information we have about you.
  • Rectification: you have the right to ask us to correct personal information you think is wrong. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
  • Erasure: you have the right to ask us to delete your personal information.
  • Restrict processing: you have the right to ask us to limit the processing of your personal information.
  • Object to processing: you have the right to say no to the processing of your personal information.
  • Data portability: you have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you.
  • Withdraw consent: if the Dementia Coalition has asked your consent to use your data for a particular reason, you have the right to take back that consent so that the Dementia Coalition cannot use your data like that in the future. However, if you choose to withdraw your consent this will not change anything that Dementia Coalition has used your data for in the past with your consent.

You can choose to use any of these rights for free by contacting the Dementia Coalition’s lead Data Protection Officer.

The Dementia Coalition has one calendar month to respond to you from the time we receive your request. The Dementia Coalition does not have to agree to your request, but if we do not agree we have to tell you why.
