From what I can tell, the source mobile game also mostly consists of events leading up to where the movie starts. The movie's plot is clearly targeted at source gameplayers, since it assumes viewers have played at least Part 1 of the source mobile game and are familiar with its intro story, characters and factions. The movie seems to be an anime-original take on events after Part 1. So far gamers have been enjoying the movie since they're already invested in how their favourite characters react to these new events. Tvtropes has a small glossary on some of the main characters and the main factions of Chain's world, which should somewhat lessen newcomer confusion. Some of the Volunteer Army don't even get basic levels of characterization. The movie assumes viewers already know the personalities and quirks of the Volunteer Army, which are fleshed out in the source game.

Thanks for the game details, as I couldn't find a lot of specifics about how the animation fit with the game. In Aram's case, some events seem to be propping him up to become the Hero of this movie, esp. considering his behaviour's more of the standard "hero in training" while Yuuri projects a more matured leader role.

Shame the game's english translation got shafted cause of the company managing it. :/

Too bad that the anime received a pretty subtle reputation so far as there isn't a lot of people that cared to watch it, or perhaps the anime is simply flying way too low under the radar. I'll really like how there's a great balance between genders and the characters are very nicely designed too, including the spectacular animation. Hope to watch the next one soon.

The movie's plot is clearly targeted at source gameplayers, since it assumes viewers have played at least Part 1 of the source mobile game and are familiar with its intro story, characters and factions. The movie seems to be an anime-original take on events after Part 1. Actually, the movies are explaining the events you learn at the end of the fist campaign of the game, when they explain you the characters identities and motivations of... spoiler[The black knight, that in fact is Yuri, in this timeline he will fail to save the world leading to the deaths of Phoena and Pirika, the sorrow makes him transform and uses the power of the Chronicle to reset the timeline. In the normal timeline, the black knight it's a prominent character that you fight several times during the fist campaign, and whose existence takes an important roll that eventually leads to the fall of the Black King The movies also expand into the reason of why in the game there are 3 Chronicles, one in possession of the Black King (the half he takes from Phoena), the one that posses the Black Knight (he will take it from the deceased Phoena), and the one that has the Phoena in the rebooted timeline.] Most people that played the game can infer this if they played all of the first campaign.
